Nazi Party and Hitlers Run for Presidency
The forming of the Nazi Party in 1918, which Hitler later became a major part of in 1920 and then was elected party chairman in 1921, was a major platform for Hitler's path to exert control over the German people. After confirming Hitler as the new party chairman, Hitler and the Nazi Party set their sights on a 1932 presidential face off with 84 year old incumbent Paul von Hindenburg, who already wanted to leave the presidency as soon as his 7 year term ended, but was convinced by his Kamarilla to run again. Hitler lost the election but gained a valuable ally in Kurt von Schleicher, in his quest for full control over the German Political Structure. The alliance of Hitler and Schleicher lasted only as long as needed by Hitler, until their eventual falling out and Schleichers assassination as well as other who posed a threat to Hitler's vision of dictatorship, in The Night of the Long Knives campaign.
Dictatorship At Last !
Hitler finally got what he wanted following the 1933 elections, he was now in a position to make any law he wanted, with no one being able to oppose him. Although the election numbers showed that the Nazi Party did not have the approval numbers they thought they had, they still had more than the other smaller parties leading to Hitler becoming the First Dictator of Germany in the 24 hours that followed the March 5th elections.
